I’m so disappointed and honestly discouraged by the lack of respect for character and acknowledgement of story.Posted originally on the Archive of Our Own at. This was a trilogy, these 3 movies had to challenge, but also compliment each other in support of the bigger picture. You don’t have to like what Rian did, but you should’ve respected it. I mean, THIS interview is exactly why TROS didn’t work.

In the words of Chris Terrio, Kylo was the “family sin”, he was written and treated as a disgrace to the Skywalker name rather than the tormented child who never wanted the burden it carried. Rey’s character was treated and written like a porcelain doll who was constantly teetering on the edge of a mental breakdown, feeding every male’s expectation of a woman’s mental capacity. Kylo fell deeper into the dark side, ignoring his inner conflict. Rey STILL questioned herself, her abilities, and her strength. Rey and Kylo returned to hostility and aggression. Rian left all of our sequel characters at a turning point, but instead of moving them forward, they went back. Terrio and JJ did NOT have the same respect for Rian, as Rian did for JJ and Kasdan, and they decided to tell an entirely different story than the one that was built! that’s what Rian was left with! So, don’t tell me how important this “trio” is when you didn’t even care to establish it leading into TLJ! It is ahead.” Also, JJ was the one who split up Rey and the Resistence at the end of TFA. This complimented and almost directly related to what JJ created in TFA! “The belonging you seek isn’t behind you. All we saw in Rey’s vision in TFA was a ship flying away, so Rian ran with it and created what would’ve been, for Rey, the most devastating scenario. THIS IS WHY THE SEQUEL TRILOGY WASN’T A COHESIVE STORY!! Respect the creative decisions that came before you and move forward! I’m sorry, but Rian continued the story that was given to him.
